How to pack a carryon/what’s in my carryon!

Forget keeping a diary, you can tell how someone has changed over the years from how the contents of their carryon has changed. Similarly, analyzing people from their carryons is much more effective than feeding them cheese. Not that I’d turn down cheese. Some people say they hate packing- I can’t relate. I love packing! Mostly because I love organizing things so much. So, for a carryon, you could take a backpack, little suitcase, or a bag. I like to take bags, because backpacks put too much of a strain on my back (I have an awful back. Bad genes), and I don’t have the patience to roll a suitcase through the airport. You can just sling a bag on your shoulder and be done with it. I love being done with things. Because I’m a pack rat, I always take a really, REALLY big bag. The kind you can just barely squeeze in the overhead compartment. Inside my bag, you’ll find more bags! Like I said, I like organizing. When I’m packing, I make a checklist. It varies by trip and location, but ALWAYS includes:
  1. Travel size hand sanitizer
  2. Travel size hand cream
  3. Travel size face cream (planes dry out your skin!)
  4. Lip balm (see above)
  5. Travel size perfume or cologne
  6. Earplugs (there’s always the possibility of a crying baby)
  7. Sleeping mask (for when the flight attendants won’t turn off those glaring lights)
  8. Small notebook
  9. Pens/pencils
  10. Small pack of wipes (you’ll be glad you took them)
  11. Tissues (for tearjerker movies)
  12. Snacks (bars, small bags of chips, nuts, etc)
  13. My phone (duh)
  14. Headphones (see #6)
  15. A small compact mirror/hairbrush
  16. Small bag of makeup (you don’t need to go full runway, but a touch of concealer and blush will do wonders after a 17 hour flight!)
Always, always, always keep your liquids in a bag. If you’re carrying your laptop, put it in a case or bag, and try not to pile anything heavy on it. And heck, throw everything else into bags! Now’s the time to use all those cute cloth bags you’re hoarding. Is that just me? I live in fear that I’m the only one who stockpiles small cotton and chiffon bags. And this lessens the risk of losing anything- just remember you have 4 (or however many you take) mini bags in your carryon, and regularly check that you still have all 4. A semi foolproof way to keep everything together! So, that’s what’s in my carryon. I hope this helps you with packing your own! Now go forth and pack way too much stuff
