It’s finally happened- winter is over! And since we’re apparently skipping spring and going straight to summer, here are 7 fun activities for the beach lover:
- Learn how to paddle board- it’s like surfing, but for people who have no balance and sometimes trip over their feet on dry land. So, me. If you do want to try surfing but are scared of, you know, drowning, this is a great first step
- Make your own snacks. Eating at the beach doesn’t have to be unhealthy or expensive! Try freezing juice in a popsicle mold for homemade popsicles, bake tomatoes and cheese on flatbread for pizza, pop your own corn and pour oil with garlic and paprika on it (so, so much better than any microwave popcorn), and infuse water with fresh herbs and fruit- you need to stay hydrated!
- Go sailing- whether you’re on a sailboat, motorboat, or yacht, sailing is a fun way to spend lots of time out on the ocean. You might see some dolphins!
- Go fishing. No, you don’t have to eat the fish. I know it’s not exactly appetizing to have your dinner looking back at you.
- Have a party- just don’t go swimming at night. Jaws traumatized me deeply.
- Organize a beach cleanup- or better yet, turn your party into a beach cleanup. A couple of plastic wrappers and a soda can might not seem like a big deal, but a bird or fish could choke on it, get caught on it, or cut themselves on the edge of a soda can. If it washes into the ocean, it can sink to the bottom and disrupt a whole ecosystem. Always, always clean up after yourselves at the beach! And even if it’s not your waste, pick it up. It won’t matter whose it is when a turtle can’t find a safe place to lay her eggs.
- Build a sand castle. You probably haven’t done this in a long time- meaning you’ve picked up new art and architecture skills since, and you’ll build an amazing, Instagram-worthy sand castle! Or maybe it’ll look the same as it did when you were five years old. Takes all kinds to make the world go round.
